Howl is Here
James Franco on Allen Ginsberg
James Franco has an essay in the new Vanity Fair about what it’s like to play Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming movie, Howl.
The essay is called “Finding the Beat“… which happens to be the title of another upcoming Beat movie, which you can read more about here.
Hunter S. Thompson & The Lizards
I’ll admit that I’m hardly the first person to notice this, but I don’t generally keep up with the latest movie news unless it’s a project particularly close to my heart. But I couldn’t help raise an eyebrow at the trailer for Johnny Depp’s latest effort: as the voice of a lizard in Rango (2011).
Watch the following video and pay particular attention around 1:47 mins.
Animals, Whores & Dialogue

Wayne Ewing’s newest documentary is about to begin shipping on July 13th, just in time for Hunter S. Thompson’s birthday. Animals, Whores & Dialogue is the sequel – of sorts – to 2003′s classic Breakfast With Hunter.
Steve Buscemi to Direct Queer
Here’s a bit of Beat news that might interest you…
Apparently Steve Buscemi has been linked with directing a movie adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel, Queer. This is a story that has been floating around for years, but now it appears to have gained momentum.
On Friday night Buscemi and several other actors took to the stage at Florida Studio Theatre to read the screenplay in front of an audience. The screenplay was written by Oren Moverman.
Buscemi told the audience that he had visited Burroughs weeks before the author’s death to gain his approval of the film project.
